Easy to operate. Increased safety.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have installed these on all of my doors. Work well in most cases, I recommend stuffing the hole through the door with a ball of loose fiberglass insulation. The hot air outside and cool air inside caused the circuit board to fail on two locks due to condensation. This helped and does not interfere with operation.
I wish that you could change batteries without taking the special hex screws out to remove the cover. Don't lose that wrench!
My children are good at opening and closing this lock, they remember patterns not numbers. Also with the blinking status light I can see via the security cam if the door is locked. I might add zigbee on the next purchase.

Great when it works.
I have had 2 locks replaced, one lasted 1-1/2 years, the other about 9 weeks. This is a great lock when its working.

Eats Batteries!!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the convenience of this lock; however, we have to replace the batteries every 3-4 WEEKS!! I always use the best alkaline or lithium batteries, but it makes no difference. My husband is a Facilities Engineer and has used a variety of electronic locks for years and only has to replace batteries every 1-2 YEARS or longer in his facilities. This is ridiculous. Will be replacing this lock with another brand very soon--the money we will save in batteries alone will pay for the new lock! Definitely do not suggest this lock for anyone!

Internal Spring Keeps Breaking (2nd Set)
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've purchased 2 of these, one to replace the other as one of the internal springs keeps breaking, causing the physical locking mechanism to malfunction. Been trying to fabricate my own, more heavy duty, spring, but i'm just getting fed up with this lock.

Very useful electronic door handset
This is *almost* a great handset. Functionality is definitely great and it is simple and convenient to use. I have had a couple of these on main entry doors for years and they get abundant use from kids and adults. The electronics have worked fine. I had to place a warranty claim on one after 4 years of use due to a return spring breaking, and the warranty claim process was smooth. The finish has been durable as comparing new to used there is not really any discernible appearance difference. I do use these on 2-hole doors in combination with a deadbolt and although it is slightly inconvenient to change the batteries in the handset, the usefulness outweighs the nuisance.
Things I like about this handset:
-smooth handle
-SmartKey technology
-keypad is simple and elegant, with a natural footprint
Things that should be done better:
-interior battery compartment should be at the bottom or side so it is easier to use with a deadbolt
-use thread locker on all the screws to prevent them from coming loose (something like Loctite or such). This applies to the screws that hold the outdoor unit in place, the screws that hold the indoor unit in place, and the screws that hold the handles tight. All the screws work their way loose unless they have thread locker on them. And when the screws get loose, the handset doesn't function smoothly.
-slightly more robust handle support would be nice
I spent a couple weeks looking at the available locking handsets, deadbolts, and interior handles available in the box stores and online to find a system that met my functionality requirements and was reasonably secure. This was, and continues to be, one of the best locking handsets readily available (in terms of balancing features, durability, cost, and security). It could easily be a *great* handset with just some minor engineering and manufacturing tweaks.

Looks great, and works great.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We've had this model on our back door for quite a while now. We've been very happy with it. It's so nice not to fumble around trying to get my keys, and I also don't have to worry about my kids needing or losing a key. We did have a problem with it, but we called customer service and they were very helpful and sent us a new unit hassle free. It was a simple swap, and we haven't had any trouble with the new unit. I would certainly recommend and purchase this again.
