Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beware of gnats, flies, & mushrooms I purchased the cactus soil mix just a few weeks ago and I am not satisfied at all with it. Not only has it created a gnat and problem, I have little yellow mushrooms growing in almost every succulent I planted. I have been propogating them, so I have several single containers wherein I mixed a bit of the regular potting soil I had with the new cactus mix soil, as was recommended by several gardening websites. I water only when they get dry, as also recommended. The mushrooms literally popped up overnight and are horrible, but the gnats and flies seem to have lingered for weeks now and are quite annoying. I seem to have the gnat problem no matter what Miracle-gro potting soil I buy, but never had the mushrooms before.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tons of Gnats, soil is fine without the gnats Our first bag of this potting soil worked out fine. On our second bag, we noticed gnats starting to fly around the plants we had just potted. The infestation spread and spread, and we were able to trace back the source to this bag of soil. When we looked in the bag, tons of gnats were flying around in the bag and crawling on the soil. Will not buy this product again, seeing as this does not look like an isolated incident based on other reviews. I didn't think I would've had to read reviews for potting soil, but I regret not doing so.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Soil, but Fungus Gnat Issues I have purchased at least 6 bags of the Cactus, Palm & Citrus to plant the various cacti and succulents I've obtained in the last 2 years. The plants do well in this soil, and I have no complaints with it's inherent performance. Instead of giving this 5 stars, I only gave three because more than half of the time I've purchased this product, I have ended up with infestations of fungus gnats. I keep the bags sealed and in a dry place when not using them, and as this is for cacti and succulents, I don't water much or very often. Also, the gnats appear a few days after potting in every case, even when I've potted the plants and held off on watering (after the first round of fungus gnats, I wanted to be sure that I wasn't causing the issue with the watering). In one case, I opened a brand new bag and fungus gnats flew out. I disposed of this bag and purchased another bag from a different store, and ended up having the fungus gnat issue anyway. I'm not sure how much of this is a manufacturer issue, or if it's more of an issue of shipping and storage before being sold by retailers. I've read about this issue from other brands and it seems to be fairly common. That said, I feel like there should be some recourse for the consumer, either in the form of tips on how to get rid of the infestation, products to kill the gnats, or replacement of the products with this issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from problems this year The last two years I used this potting soil and didn’t have any concerns. Worked as advertised. This year I bought a new bag and potted a few things, stored it as usual, and now my bag is full of gnats. Definitely gross and I don’t want to put new plants in my remaining soil and have plant problems. Pretty bummed. My regular yellow bag miracle grow potting soil I purchased this year had mold growing in it after 1 use and storage. I store my bags as I have every year, rolled up the top, on a shelf, in a dry garage. Trying a new brand in the future.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from GNATS! Soil is full of fungal gnat eggs. Thank you for infesting all of my succulents that I've had for over 10 years with fungal gnats....

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Soil Bugs I bought this for my lemon trees and I had these little flying bugs all over the place. I bought three bags and put them in the basement. I started my indoor gardening where I used pods they were fine until I put them in the basement under lights. The next day I found those little bugs on my mew seedlings. I have to throw out the open bag of Miracle Grow I put in the basement. I went on line and saw that I could sprinkle cinnamon on the soil and it will get rid of these little bugs. Wish me luck.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stays damp, doesn’t drain well I bought this soil for my succulents and it’s very rich and peat moss-like, and it doesn’t seem to have any of the components other succulent soil has (pumice, sand, etc). It doesn’t drain at all and stays moist and damp. My succulents started rotting so I had to find other soil for them. Really not impressed

Rated 1 out of 5 by from MULTIPLE BAGS INFESTED WITH GNATS**** I purchased a bag of this a while ago to repot some of my plants last spring, I noticed these little tiny flies started to appear around the top of the soil after a week or so. I read online to discover they were fungus gnats and boy are they EXTREMELY difficult to get rid of. I got rid of the gnats after a couple MONTHS. I purchased another bag recently to get myself ready to reprt (thinking the last bag was maybe a bad bag) and I opened the bag this morning and there were SWARMING with the same small fungus gnats! This is very disappointing. I DO NOT RECOMMENED this soil. I have another bag of just regular indoor potting mix from Miracle Gro and didn’t see one bug. This must just be super common for the Palm, Cactus, and Citrus soil. I’m pretty upset.
