Rated 4 out of 5 by from My last mower lasted 4+ years I have to say, Black & Decker has been around a lot of years, even my grandfather bought it. The last product I got was the CM2043 Mower from a gas-to-electric trade in sponsored by the county. I have been very happy with the performance. The only downside is the batteries do not last. So I bought two more to add to my arsenal. Worked great until I hit a large rock and broke the drive shaft (I think)…so I bought the same model as not to waste all my batteries. Note: the box shows a standing charger which did not come with it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing quality Had a 36V B&D mower for about 10 years when the battery eventually stopped taking a charge. It was a solid machine and would mow over 1/3 acre on one charge. Bought the 40V Max to replace it. The new mower was remarkably lower in material quality - the wheels and body are made of thin plastic that I doubt will last more than a few years. The former mower had padded handle, the new one is just a cheap, thin metal bar that is hard on the hands. The "port" for the battery is also made of cheap plastic and the batteries are difficult to load. Each 40V battery lasts for about 15 minutes of mowing (on height level 4 - mulch mode) - it takes about 6 batteries to mow my 0.5 acre lawn. The mower does cut the lawn evenly and the mulch system works well. I also wish the mower would store the way the older mower did - in an upright position - which takes up a lot less room in the already crowded garage. All in all, the mower mows well but the material quality (or lack there of) is Not Good. Also plan to run through a half a dozen batteries to get a lawm mowed unless you have less than 1/4 acre.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very frustrating product I knew the batteries don't last long, but I'm getting 10 minutes on each, at most. I have four batteries. Wet or long grass is even worse. Sometimes battery indicator says fully charged and it will be 3 minutes. B&D string trimmer failed after 2 years. B&D cordless chain saw still working, but very weak and drinks bar oil. I feel bad for B&D. I wanted to support them. (Both my charger indicator LEDs stopped working within weeks. Minor problem. Still charges, but you don't know if they are plugged in or fully charged.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good mower for small yard I got this lawn mower because I do not want to mess with gasoline and oil. The batteries do not last a long time, but neither do I. Also, the batteries seem to stay too hot to charge, for hours.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great concept, poor execution. I love the thought of a battery-powered mower. However, this one comes with a lot of quirks that it's starting to become difficult to overlook. First, the mower constantly becomes clogged when cutting any appreciable length of grass. I'm not talking about neglect length, but rather if you let it go 7-8 days in the summer without a cut. Second, the batterries drained quite a bit over the winter season. I purchased this mower last year and only used it a handful of times. I had to use both batteries and sometimes a third from another BD product to finish my yard. This year I cannot finish the yard with those three batteries. My yard is only .22 acres, so not that big. I would only recommend this if you want to cut your yard frequently because you will not be able to take much length off because it drains the batteries and will frequently stall out the engine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Mower I purchased this mower because I have a neck and shoulder injury and had trouble starting a gas mower. This has been a game changer for me. It is so easy to use, quiet, light weight, and so easy to clean up. I highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long Battery Life It is so great not to deal with gasoline and oil. I love my battery operated mower. I can mow my entire yard, front and back with plenty of power left over.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It's always had a problem starting and staying on. I bought it August 21 2019 and it's always been a frustration. Now it doesn't work at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Battery power I bought this yesterday for a house we just moved into. Grass hadn't been cut in two weeks, so, grass was long and it had rained the night before. Cut most of the yard without a problem as long as I went slowly and used the side ejection and took a half width cut, mulch would bog down. Changed batteries twice for small yard. Had to wait about 15 minutes after stalling to restart, only happened once with several stalls. New batteries took around 6 hours each to charge. Batteries had to cool down before charging after mowing. The power is a little underwhelming, but, as long as the yard is mowed frequently it's just about perfect. Looked online for replacement batteries, couldn't find any, have an email in to Black and Decker asking if the 2.0A batteries will be available.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bad Batteries Batteries are very hard to put into Mower. They takle to long to charge like 6 hrs, and only last 15 min before you have to recharge.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very light Verydisappointed the batteries only last about 20 min I was told they each last about 30 min and even thought I am picking up the grass it is leaving lot on the lawn very disappointed

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best mower I could have purchased. I bought this product about three months ago. It has a good smooth now. My yard gets done pretty efficiently and is all evenly cut. I would recommend this mower to any mom like me. Looking for a simple to use mower.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pros and Cons I like the weight of the mower; it makes it easy to maneuver. I like the 3 options available for mowing, regular, mulching and bagging. The storage compartment for the second battery is handy. The mower is so much quieter than a gasoline powered mower. That said, these are the cons. I have .18 acre with a ranch house, a double car garage and vegetable garden on the lot and I can never mow the entire yard at one time with two charged batteries. Years ago I had a B & D Firestorm drill, saw and reciprocating saw set and was disappointed by the short life of the battery charge. I was really hoping B & D had made significant gains as to the length of time their batteries held a charge. I was profoundly disappointed. It also takes a very long time to recharge the batteries so my lot cannot be mowed in one day. My other concern is that I wish there were more adjustments for the handle to accommodate the wide range of heights of people mowing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from IT CUTS THE GRASS I have had this machine for over a year now and am pleased with it. It was bought to cut the grass in my wife's rose garden. We like to keep the grass at 4 to 5 inches, a job it does well, with little noise. We put the clippings into our compost, where they are needed more than on the grass. The mower cuts about a bag of clippings for each charge of the battery, so each stop to change batteries is also the time to empty the clippings bag. The times suggested for battery life are quite optimistic. I have found that I mow about 6 minutes per charge. I bought 2 more batteries to allow more cutting at a time. This is a good trade-off. Every gas mower (I have 6) needs to be fed the more expensive gas, plus stabilizer. They also require far more maintenance than the battery powered mower. The mower cuts better in dry grass than wet grass, but this is true of all mowers except hand-held scythes that work better in wet grass, but are better suited to haying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my Mower! I really like this lawnmower - it's nice and lightweight for me. When the wheel fell off, I called in to get a replacement, and it was here within a week, free of charge! Great service, great warranty and great lawnmower! Thanks for your customer service!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Electric Mower Ever!!! I had a previous B&D 36V self propelled electric mower I bought 4 years ago. Due to electrical problems with the charging port I had to dispose of it. I could do my entire 1/4 acre yard on one charge, and keep in mind it was self propelled. It was a great mower and even collapsed to stand upright against the garage wall. This new one is 40V and comes with 2 batteries, not self-propelled so I figured it would do my lawn easily. I figured wrong...it takes me 4-6 battery charges to get my lawn done. And with a 4 hour charge time it now takes me 2 days to do what should take 35 minutes. Not self-propelled and doesn’t collapse for easy storage. I’ve only had it 3 weeks, going to try to get my money back. Black and Decker : What were you thinking when you created this mower? You a great product and ruined it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dont waste your money. Batteries dont last long I have 2 Batteries and cannot mow my entire front lawn. Forget about the back yard as the grass is too tall now because it takes days to get the front lawn done that it doesnt have enough power to mow it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from better than any gas mower. My LawnBoy mower will last 50 years ... but this light weight powerful mower is much better. The fumes .. the mixing gas... the noise... the maintenance ... all gone with this Black and Decker cordless electric... I've had it for 5 years... no maintenance .. no gas. .. and the blade turns much faster cutting the grass up much finer and filling the bag evenly without clogging. The batteries outlast me. .. they give you two of them. Best mower by far that I've owned in 50 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3 Years! For a homeowner this is the perfect machine. I like to cut my lawn before work so it's really early and since it's quiet no one knows I am out there cutting. I have a large lot at 3 acres (not all grass). It's been a great machine!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Have to learn this mower's agenda Two batteries don't do the job - IF I TRY TO CUT THE GRASS TOO SHORT. However, if I move the setting a bit higher, the mower doesn't strain and the batteries work just fine. In other words, don't make the batteries work too hard!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Little Mower with horrible battery situatio! I am very disappointed in the battery life. Fortunately all I needed was something to trim around house so I could use riding mower for the yard. Battery only last 1/2 hr and could never cut my yard with a 4 hr battery charge time! What is sad is I had the Black and Decker 36 Volt self propelled for 4 years and loved it but the gearing wore out. I thought it would be the same quality. I hope they will offer us an upgraded charger!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Battery life As the others have stated, the mower itself does a great job, easy to push and adjust, quiet, however, the battery life is not as described. I have a small yard and have not been able to completely mow it entirely at one time Using both batteries. The batteries are too hot to start the recharge immediately and then takes more than two hours to fully charge. I am retired and did not expect to spend all day mowing my lawn!
Date published: 2018-06-04
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Battery life is a problem This mower cuts well and does so quietly. The adjustable settings are quickly and easily changed to suit need; however, battery life is not as advertised. My yard is probably a little less than a 1/4 acre then remove the area of the decks, and gardens from that. Took two fully charged batteries this afternoon to cut my front and side yard. Put one of the batteries on to charge which took approx. 4 hours. Then started cutting the back yard, and only got about half of that done before the recharged battery quit. Will have to wait until tomorrow to finish off the remaining yard.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from lawnmower good...battery bad I am quite happy with the lawnmower itself it is quiet, cuts cleanly and easy to handle. Unfortunately the battery doesn't meet the same standard, on a full charge will last perhaps at best 1/2 hour and then will take up to 2 hours to charge, so even the benefit of 2 batteries is kind of wasted.
