Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked well for unusual application Had a garden shovel with wooden handle severely weathered from being left outside, thought it was beyond recovery with linseed oil. Treated with multiple applications of Minwax wood hardener and brought it back to life. Now feels as solid as new.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from useful product I have used this product several times to harden and stabilize punky wood before including it in projects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New use? I'm a gourd artist. Even though gourds have a hard, thin, sometimes brittle, outer shell, the inside part of the shell is soft and porous. After cleaning out the seeds and pulpy "gunk", I coat the gourd's interior with Minwax High Performance Wood Hardener. Once dry, the gourd can be easily carved.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It did not do much of anything Dried the wood. Used as directed, epic fail! It did not much of ANYTHING! Used almost a whole can on 4+ feet of 1x2&1x4, it did not penetrate the wood at all!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! First time I heard about this was from my roofer, who used it on a small section of eaves that was soft from water run-off due to a broken shingle. I was skeptical, but the repair seemed to hold up fine without replacing anything - then I bought it myself to repair a bench I inherited, that had very porous wood planks on the seat. There were three planks that needed to be either replaced, which would be a lot of work because the width was odd and not a standard size, or repaired. The wood hardener looks like shellac, and paints on. The soft/porous wood absorbed it, and in a few hours became hardened, almost like it was plastic, resembling the wood composite used for decks. It doesn't work on painted wood, so make sure paint is removed before use. And it's best to use a disposable brush - it can be cleaned, but clean-up is easier if a disposable brush is used. Wood can then be painted if desired. Wood ends up a bit darker in color than before, but it is probably as dark as when it was solid and not rotting/soft. I use this on all my antique wood projects that need a touch of TLC for soft spots, instead of replacement. This is wonderful stuff.
